Who Am I?
Hi! My name is Blake Nelson and I'm an Math Education Major at WSU. I'm originally from Graham, Washington, coming from a family of teachers and loyal Cougs. My mom is an English teacher, while my dad is a Math teacher (both special ed.). Further, My family includes six teachers and one principal (my uncle Craig Nelson is the principal at Jefferson Elementary here in Pullman).
In high school, my big extracurricular was band. I played, over the span of ten years, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, and tuba with euphonium being my main intrument. I also played bass trombone in jazz band with little to no experience on the instrument (whoops). I always liked math, but I always assumed I would go study music up until my senior year of high school when math really captured my interest.
Coming from a family of teachers, I was always taught to explain my reasoning well. This obviously meshes well with math which is based on the sole idea of proof. So, it was a match made in heaven. I hope that my students can see and experience that thrive for logical reasoning and consistency that I have and the beauty that comes naturally in mathematics.
